Course description

Oral History is a computer based writing course in which students will collect, transcribe and publish the oral history of Tusculum College’s Upward Bound program.

 

Objectives

Define oral history and recognize the role and relevance of oral history
Analyze, interpret and conduct research using oral histories as a sole source
Examine oral history interview techniques and use these to gather information about the background of the program and it’s workers.
Examine the relevance of collecting and preserving oral histories.

 

Instructional methods and evaluation

Students will complete class assignments as posted on the class website.
Assignments will be completed in a timely fashion and submitted to the instructor for evaluation.
Students will work in groups and assume individual responsibilities for which the entire group will receive a grade
Students will create an IM identity to communicate with the instructor during actual class time.

 

Electronic folders

You are required to keep an electronic folder of all your work and submissions. You must also make a printed copy of your work. This ensures you receive the proper credit for all your assignments. At the end of the week, you will turn in all of your printed versions and your computer disk where your work has been saved. You will also turn in your labeled cassette tapes from your interviews.

 

Grading Scale

A = 93-100

B = 85-92

C = 75-84

D = 70-74

F = 69 and below
